Mmm, cake! La Maison Du Pain

Oh, my. Chocolate Royal Cake. *thud*

The Aunties found a local bakery that we haven't visited (shut up, So Cal is huge, there are plenty, trust me), so after our breakfast, they went off in search of baked goods.

And I insisted they get me something cool. Ahem.

After the lady stopped laughing at their question ("Do you have anything pumpkin or peanut butter-flavored?"), she suggested the Chocolate Royal Cake.

Nice. It was 1.5-inches wide by 4-inches long by 2-inches high. It was a bar of goodness.

The cake was topped by a hand-rolled chocolate truffle and dusted with cocoa powder. The cake itself is a a layer of chocolate mousse over a layer of crunchy almond cake, separated by a strict layer of what I imagine were almonds.
*drool*

The mousse was nice, a deep rich chocolate ganache. The cake was moist and delicate. And the crunchy cake playing off the mousse? Oh, the texture!!!

It was chocolate-y and lovely. Yum-o!
